the biggest sad news comming from sports The Chicago Blackhawks announced Hull’s death on Monday. He was a 12-time All-Star and two-time Hart Trophy winner in his hockey career. He was 84.

While playing, Hull earned the nickname “Golden Jet” due to his blond hair and lightning-fast skating. He gained widespread acclaim in Chicago after he and Stan Mikita helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup in 1961, breaking the franchise’s 23-year championship drought.
Like Mikita before him, Hull gained notoriety in the 1960s for his fearsome slap shot, which he achieved in part by bending the blade of his wooden stick. It was reported that his slap shot reached 118 miles per hour.
He spent 15 years with the Blackhawks and retired with 604 goals, a franchise record. His brother Dennis, who scored 298 goals for the Blackhawks, was on the team for eight of those seasons. Hull left the Blackhawks and the NHL in 1972 to become a player/coach for the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association (WHA), signing the first $1 million deal in the history of professional hockey (10 years, $1.75 million).
A seven-year WHA veteran, he won championships with the Jets in 1976 and 1978. In the 1972–1973 and 1974–1975 seasons, when he scored a combined 77 goals, he was named the league’s most valuable player, earning him two Gordie Howe Trophies.
During the 1978–1979 season, he proclaimed his retirement, but he came back the next year after the WHA merged with the NHL. After 18 games with the Jets in 1979–80, he was dealt to the Hartford Whalers and played in just nine games for them before retiring for good.
In 1983, Hull was honoured by being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Brett, his son, is also a Hall of Famer; he was honoured in 2009 following a 19-year career in which he scored 741 goals. As far as we know, Bobby and Brett Hull are the only father-and-son duo to win the Hart Trophy. And they were the only father-and-son duo to make the list of the 100 greatest NHL players in 2017.
According to data compiled by ESPN Stats & Information, Hull ranked in the top three in goals scored in the NHL in 10 different seasons. Just Alex Ovechkin (11) and Gordie Howe (12) have more. Both the Blackhawks and the Jets have honoured Bobby Hull by retiring his number nine. In 1996, the Winnipeg Jets moved to Phoenix, Arizona, becoming the Coyotes, and retiring Hull’s number 9. In 2005, the Coyotes allowed Brett Hull to wear his late dad’s number after it had been previously retired.
Over the course of 1,063 regular season NHL games, Bobby Hull scored 610 goals and added 560 assists. He won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship and outstanding play in 1965 and the Hart Trophy twice. The Art Ross Trophy is given to the league’s leading scorer.
