The wonderful Bernard Cribbins was an English character actor, comedy actor, voice-over artist, musical comedian and a huge figure in the British Entertainment world.
In this clip, he tells us of his favourite characters in the mid-’70s children’s television show which used stop-motion animation.
The Wombles are fictional pointy-nosed, furry creatures created by Elisabeth Beresford and originally appeared in a series of children’s novels from 1968. They live in burrows, where they aim to help the environment by collecting and recycling rubbish in creative ways. Although Wombles supposedly live in every country in the world, Beresford’s stories are concerned with the lives of the inhabitants of the burrow on Wimbledon Common in London, England.
Lucky to work with him, it’s always nice when one of the voices/actors of my childhood turns out to be such a lovely chap.
Sadly, Bernard passed away on the 28th of July 2022.
