South African actress-model Charlbi Dean has died at the age of 32 from ‘unexpected sudden illness’ at a New York City hospital. Her death comes just four months after engagement to her boyfriend Luke Chase Volker of four years, on the same Manhattan street as their first kiss. Dean was best known for playing Syonide, a recurring character on The CW’s DC Comics-based series Black Lightning.

Her brother Alexi had written a poem, unaware about who it would be about, but ‘life has answered my question in the most cruel way’ so he posted it on Instagram in his sister’s memory on Tuesday.

Dean is survived by her beloved parents, Johan and Joanne Kriek, as well as her brother Alexi Jacobs Kriek.

She will be missed by many of her fans all over the world. To the fans, family, and friends, we condole with you. May her soul rest in peace.
