About Pet Lover’s Center (PLC)
A pioneer of pet-product retailing, PLC was founded more than 30 years ago in 1973. Although little known during the first 25 years, it has become a household name among the pet owners in Singapore since about 10 years ago, when the younger generation of the family took over the management.
In addition to streamlining its retail system, PLC introduced innovative concepts such as the pet mega-mart The Pet Safari. These led to quantum leap that propelled the company into the largest pet-product retailer with currently 68 outlets in Singapore, 45 outlets in Malaysia, 10 outlets in Bangkok, 3 outlets in Vietnam and 3 in Philippines is expanding internationally.

Franchising Opportunities at PLC
PLC invites potential franchise partners to develop the business, especially in the Asia-Pacific region including China and ASEAN.
Priority is given to investors with retail experience, who are prepared to take up the master franchise rights to develop a city or a country. Franchisee may also open a few PLC outlets first, before being awarded the master franchise rights to develop the whole territory and appoint sub-franchisees.
Being part of the PLC network, the franchisees can tap into the proven system to overwhelm pet lovers in their markets, and build up market leadership in the process.
In order to ensure success of the business, PLC has made its international model modular. Depending on the market demand, franchisee may start with a component of the total model, and have the choice to introduce:
- PLC specialty shops, complemented by the home delivery system. The shop is typically around 1,000 square feet (approximately 100 square meters), located in high-traffic shopping malls or streets, with an adequate catchments of pet lovers
- The Pet Safari megastore. In addition to merchandise, the megastore also provides live animals and services such as veterinary, grooming and accommodation. The size of such outlets can be more than 10,000 square feet (1,000 square meters)
- Kiosks or concessionaires
Every market is different. PLC conducts market study with franchisee upon new market entry, and have the product and service offerings reconfigured with the particular market in mind. It also has a technology transfer procedures to train the franchisee, and provide on-site support to build up the system in the shortest possible time.
On the long-term basis, PLC supports the franchisee with ongoing training and advice, and allows the franchisee to enjoy updates on the already highly effective retail system.
