China said on Friday that President Xi Jinping held an “open and frank” discussion with his U.S. counterpart President Joe Biden in a call that covered a broad agenda, including Beijing’s concerns about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s possible visit to Taiwan.
Apart from highlighting Taiwan, Xi also stressed that the world’s two largest economies needed to maintain communication on macroeconomic policies, global supply chains and safeguarding global food and energy security, foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told a regular news briefing.
The two-hour phone call, the fifth between Xi and Biden as leaders, also included talks about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
When asked by a reporter if Xi and Biden discussed issues of genocide and forced labour in Xinjiang, Zhao dismissed the claims as “false information.”
