46: The Last Assassin
Requirement:
- Chapter 13
- Complete all 77 other substories
- Learn all Dragon of Dojima moves. Some moves can only be learned by triggering specific encounters, as hinted by Nishida through SMS. Refer to this page for more info.
This is the last substory and the toughest enemy in the game. The Demonfire Dagger you’ll obtain from Majima by defeating him and learning the last Dragon of Dojima skill, “Essence of Mad Dog: Demon” is essential for the second part of this battle since this special dagger is indestructible. After defeating Majima in the batting center, you’ll get a message from an anonymous sender shortly after leaving. Here are the things you should have in your inventory before heading the challenger in Theater Square:
- High-tech Shin Guard
- All the full-recovery items you saved, as well as high-level medicines like Toughness Emperor, Staminan XX, etc.
- Your best armor. At this point, it should be the Dragon Mail at least.
Once you’re prepared, save your game before talking to the intimidating man standing in the middle of Theater Square. Choose whatever answer you want for his first question then agree to fight him to trigger the battle against Jo Amon.
The battle can be divided to two parts; the first one is hand-to-hand combat. Good Tiger Drop timings end this battle quickly. Keep your stance up and don’t underestimate Amon, especially when his aura is blazing. He can connect combos like crazy without giving you the chance to recover immediately. That said, there’s really no way to win against him using other styles as efficient as the Dragon style, with the combination of Tiger Drop and Essence of Sumo Slap finisher. Fortunately (or unfortunately), he doesn’t get weakened so you can’t perform your powerful Kiwami finishers on him but at the same time, this means he won’t heal his ridiculous amount of health. After taking him down in the first phase of the battle, he’ll stay down on the ground for a few seconds. Keep your distance and make sure that you have the Demonfire Dagger already equipped.
The second phase of the battle is the most dangerous and time-consuming. You cannot hit him with continuous combos and you can’t use Tiger Drop without putting yourself in great risk. That said, the less risk but time-consuming method of defeating him is fighting defensively. The High-Tech Shin Guard will protect you from his leg sweeps during his combos while the Demonfire Dagger will protect you from his attacks while also giving the chance to perform the devastating heat action you learned from Majima. The idea here is to block his attacks to gain heat, then perform a single, quick slash to completely fill up a heat gauge. The best time to trigger the dagger heat action is right after he performs his combo. You can even interrupt his counterattack with proper timing. Repeat this basic strategy until you finally take him out. Always keep your guard up and avoid slashing twice especially when he has the Rush aura up since he can quickly dodge and counterattack with a powerful counter-slash. Always keep your health more than 40%.
Another thing you must be aware of is that he will always use a spinning-kick attack whenever he’s recovering from a knockdown (right after your heat action finishes). This recovery move can deal a small amount of damage but can be evaded as long as you keep the stick tilted away from him and you mash the evade button right before your heat action animation ends. Once you have these basic strategies in mind, you should be able to outsmart Amon and complete the substory. Refer to the video below for the actual application of the strategies mentioned above.
