With only 3 ingredients and less than 20 minutes cook time the Crescent Dogs are an easy, family friendly recipe that the kids will love.
When it comes to feeding my kids around here, we like to do quick and simple the majority of the time for lunch and dinner, especially during the summer months when we have all the summer rec activities going on.
These Crescent Dogs are a fast fix family favorite recipe that literally whip up in minutes. Kids absolutely adore them and they are a fun and easy twist on a traditional hot dog recipe.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With only 3 ingredients, it’s a quick and family friendly recipe that kids can help with in the kitchen.
- It makes the perfect grab and go lunch or dinner.
- Cheese, hot dogs and crescent rolls go together almost like peanut butter and jelly, they were made for each other, the crescent roll as the bun holds everything in without the mess.
We’ve been making this recipe for many many years and my kids still get super exited when they hear that I’m whipping it up for them.
I personally have never been the hugest fan of crescent rolls, but with this recipe I will gobble up 3 of these bad boys in one sitting, they are just that good.
Everyone thinks that minimal ingredient recipes have to be bland and boring, but I’m here to tell you otherwise. This Crescent Dog recipe is really flavorful and you can dip it in whatever you would like! No holds barred here.
HOW TO MAKE CRESCENT DOGS, STEP BY STEP:
Unroll your crescent dough and separate into triangles and layer on a baking sheet sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Cut cheese slices in half and lay one half on each of your crescent dough (Photos 1 & 2).
Add your hot dogs to the long end of each of your crescents and then roll up and line in a row of 4 on each side of baking sheet with the smaller tip facing up and bake at 350 for about 15-17 minutes until golden (Photos 3 &4).
I can’t stress enough how simple and easy this recipe really is. It is fool-proof and even the kids could make it themselves which I am teaching my kids to do, well learning to cook that is.
These are pretty much your favorite pig’s in a blanket recipe, but adult sized and not an appetizer but a main dish. I mean technically these could be called pig’s in a blanket themselves because I’ve also seen them referred to that or crescent dogs as well.
This recipe can easily be doubled, which we do a lot of the times because my kids can be big eaters and well 8 sometimes just isn’t enough to fill a family of 6.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- To get really melty cheese we like to use THIS brand of American, because it is not processed cheese like Kraft and we find it melts super nice and gives great flavor.
- You can make this with any brand of crescent rolls you like.
- We like to spray our sheet pan, where as normally with crescent rolls you don’t need to but with the addition of cheese, it sometimes seeps out and it is easier to remove from the pan.
- Before baking you can brush a little butter over the top to help with browning if you like, you can also sprinkle with poppy seeds or do any other kid of glaze you wish!
If you are looking for a great and tasty but easy dinner recipe then you need to whip up these Crescent Dogs ASAP, trust me, the kids, adults and everyone will love them.
