Kevin McCarthy: US House Republicans Speaker election chaos continues for FOURTH day. House Republicans participated in a mid-morning call Friday as the drama over whether Rep. Kevin McCarthy gets the speakership drags into day No. 4.

Punchbowl initially reported that some progress was made and that McCarthy announced on the call that he and Rep. Chip Roy, one of the 20 holdouts, had made a deal, but Roy’s press office immediately slapped that reporting down.

‘He did not say this. And any agreement will take us ALL. We are making progress… but don’t let the sharks confuse the ongoing engagement,’ Roy’s press office said in a tweet.

McCarthy was also heard demanding reporters get off the call, Punchbowl reported.

As he walked into the Capitol Building Friday, McCarthy told reporters ‘we’re going to shock you’ and promised ‘progress,’ according to CBS News .

Late Thursday, after the House gaveled out for the day with McCarthy losing on the 11th vote, he provided a written offer to appease the so-called ‘ Taliban 20.’
