Kellie Pickler, 36, has lost her spouse of two years, country music composer Kyle Jacobs, to an apparent suicide. He was 49.
After receiving a 911 call from the couple’s house on Friday afternoon, authorities found Jacobs dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an upstairs bedroom/office, according to Metropolitan Nashville Police spokesperson Don Aaron, who spoke with The Post.
Police say they are probing his death as a possible suicide.
To that, Aaron mentioned that Pickler mentioned that when she woke up, she looked for her spouse but couldn’t find him. As she and her assistant tried to enter the room where they found Jacobs, they were unsuccessful and the assistant dialled 911.
Attempts to reach Pickler’s representatives for comment were made by The Post.
Jacobs was born on June 26, 1973, in Minnesota. He collaborated with Garth Brooks on “More Than A Memory,” a Top 10 smash from 2007. The Tim McGraw song “Still” and the Eli Young Band’s “Dust” both use his songwriting assistance.
Pickler, George Strait, Kelly Clarkson, Thompson Square, and Jo Dee Messina are just some of the artists that have recorded his songs.
Meanwhile, Pickler shot to popularity in 2006 after finishing sixth on the fifth season of “American Idol.”
She overcame a difficult childhood to achieve success. In 2006, she told Us Weekly that her mother had given her a kitchen knife and encouraged her to end her life.
In retrospect, I wish I hadn’t told my mother that “I hope God would take me away, I’d much rather be dead than live here with you” when we were in the kitchen. Here, do it then, she said, pulling out a knife and placing it on the counter. That year, I was a fourth grader. I never would have acted on it, but it left a deep emotional wound.
Jacobs and Pickler first connected in 2007 when they were introduced by fellow musicians.
In 2015, she explained on “The Real” how they had sat down with him and his friends and gotten so deep into conversation that everyone else had faded away.
They started making music together right away, with both of Pickler’s albums (2012’s “100 Proof” and 2013’s “The Woman I Am”) featuring collaborations. Songs like “Mother’s Day,” “The Woman I Am,” and “Bonnie and Clyde” feature his name in the credits.
“I didn’t know someone like Kyle existed,” Pickler told People in 2008 of her then-boyfriend.
“He makes me feel so good about being me. I hadn’t seen the way a relationship should be. ” I’d never seen my mom and dad in the same room except in a courthouse. When I’m going through problems and saying, ‘I need a Xanax!’ Kyle says, ‘No, baby, let me be your pill.’ It’s so comforting.”
The couple eloped on Jan. 1, 2011, in Antigua. “Kyle and I originally planned this big, extravagant wedding, and at the very last minute, I looked at him, and I said, ’Baby, this ain’t us.’ And he said, ’Let’s just run away,’” Pickler recalled.
She went on to win “Dancing with the Stars” Season 16 with Derek Hough in 2013.
During the competition, Pickler and Hough danced the rumba to “Say I Do,” a song Jacobs wrote and performed for the show. “That song is my life, it’s our story,” Pickler said of the track before taking the floor.
Jacobs’ Twitter bio notes that he is “happily married to my best friend.” The couple’s reality show, “I Love Kellie Pickler,” ran for three seasons on CMT, from 2015 to 2017.
Throughout his career, Jacobs won a CMA Award, an ACM Award, and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Pickler and Jacobs wed in a surprise ceremony on Jan. 1, 2011. They do not share any children.
The couple, who had been dating since 2008, got engaged on June 15, 2010, when Jacobs popped the question on a Florida beach.
“It was the most spiritual moment.” Pickler, who got her start on American Idol, said of the proposal. “We would’ve gotten married that night had there been a preacher walking by!”
Days after being married, Pickler tweeted, “Private Island. Caribbean. Cigar in one hand, Rum in the other. Someone just called me “Mrs. Jacobs.”….sounds lovely :)”
