Most of us know Nick Faldo for his color commentary and Hall of Fame career. What you may not know about is his passion for golf course architecture and design.
That brings us to this 470-acre island off the west coast of Ireland. Nick gives us a very early look at his newest project, “Bartragh.”
We discover why this part of the world is so near to his heart. During the early 2010s, Ireland hosted the European Grand Final for his “Faldo Series” – Sir Nick’s global amateur golf series for boys and girls age 12 to 21.
Could this land hold a future Open Championship? It’s clearly way too early to tell. But after seeing the bones of Bartragh for ourselves, it definitely wouldn’t surprise us.
UPDATE: In September, 2021, Bartragh was sold to a private buyer, bringing Faldo’s quest to build a golf course on the island to an end.
