Bottom line – this is worth it. Our dog “Bug” has been an extremely nervous pup since she was just a puppy. Basically, she hated anything that wasn’t in her immediate comfort zone. If we took her somewhere, she would growl and bark at everyone around her, especially men with beards and hats. This behavior wouldn’t end until we took her home. We tried so many reinforcement-based training lessons and groups but saw limited to no success, especially outside of our home. The anxiety producing stimulus was always just more important in the moment than any treat we could offer her. In short, she was a mess. Due to her extreme anxiety and reactivity she struggled to learn and use even the most basic commands, which meant that we were super anxious dog owners all the time too – I’m not kidding, we would board her for the day if we were having guests over it was so bad. After lots of researching and reading reviews like this, we decided on Off Leash K9. Like many of you reading this I imagine you are worried about the e-collar. We were worried that given Bug’s already insane anxiety that she would have a negative reaction to the collar and would have to be “broken” in order to use it, which we didn’t want. We requested a demo of the collar on ourselves when they came to pick Bug up, which they happily did. This is NOT a shock collar. If anything, it’s really just a muscle stim – it honestly tickled more than anything. For context, I “felt” the collar at a level 16 on my hand, my dog currently has a working level of 2 (and it goes to 100!). Bug’s trainer was Amanda, and she literally changed our dog’s life. We could tell after the first few nights that she didn’t mind the collar at all and was progressing at an insane rate, it was amazing to see her transformation. After returning home from a three-week board and train Bug is the same old goof ball she’s always been in our house, and when we leave, she goes into work mode. No more pulling on the leash, no more growling and barking at everything that moves, I can even take her into a store without the fear that she will lunge at someone – she’s just so good! Most recently she just hung out in a “down” while I chatted with a large man (with a hat and beard) standing right next to her while I was getting some product info, and she didn’t care at all. Does she still have anxiety? Yes, but much less and now it’s redirectable. Now if we’re out an about and something throws her off and she starts to growl I know that I can give her a simple command and redirect her. Honestly, it’s amazing. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this training to anyone, and will absolutely sign all of my future dogs up for this training as well. Pros: 1. Amanda, our trainer. She was absolutely amazing! 2. Constant text updates in addition to emails. Any question I had would be answered very quickly via text. 3. Nightly report cards! Info sent were pictures, videos, how much she ate and even how much she pooped! 4. Weight updates every three days or so, with pictures of her on the scale. 5. Crazy awesome level of obedience – in addition to overall anxiety reduction, she can heel, sit, down, come, place, off, and so much more. 6. Full instructional turnover – they teach you how to do everything and use the equipment. 7. Reduced owner anxiety. Cons: 1. We really missed our dog for three weeks. 2. My other dog really missed his sister for three weeks. 3. The price can be overwhelming, but I would pay it again given the transformation. 4. Seriously I have nothing else to add here. I truly believe this training has given my dog a new lease on life. Thank you so much to the staff at OLK9 (especially Amanda!). More…
