5) Correct them immediately

If you see your dog about to urinate or defecate in the house, believe it or not, you can actually stop them before they do. Say their name in an interruption that isn’t punishment, and lead them outside calmly. When they go where they’re supposed to outdoors, give loads of praise so that they know they have done a good job.

If you shout at them, your dog might get the idea that it is only safe to relieve themselves when you’re not around.

6) Get your puppy on a regular potty schedule

Trying to keep your puppy on a consistent potty schedule is important for their success in learning how to hold it. It is helpful to take them out first thing in the morning, before bed, and every few hours in between.

What To Do If There’s An Accident

If your puppy has an accident indoors, it’s important to clean it up right away. Dogs are attracted to the smell of their own urine, so if you leave it, they are likely to go in that same spot again.

Be patient with your puppy and refrain from punishing them for accidents. They are still learning and it will take some time for them to get the hang of things. Negativity will only make the process harder and longer.

When Nature Calls: How Often Should a Puppy Go?

Puppies generally need to relieve themselves every few hours. The number will depend on their age, size, and activity level. A good rule of thumb is to take them out :

-After they wake up from a nap

-Before and after meals

-After playing or exercising
