The first matches of the 31st Southeast Asian Games 2021 kicked off in Vietnam on May 6, a week ahead of the official opening ceremony. Men’s football got the ball rolling, with the Philippines taking the first victory against Timor Leste. The Games had been postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. About 10,000 athletes and delegates are expected to arrive in Vietnam for the Games.
