A Maine community is reeling after two separate shootings at a bar and a bowling alley that left multiple casualties across Lewiston.

Two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press that at least 16 people were killed and the toll was expected to rise. Scores were injured.

“This doesn’t happen in Maine,” one Lewiston resident said. “It’s a peaceful community, everyone knows everyone.”

Hundreds of Maine police officers continued a search for Robert Card, 40, Thursday wanted in connection to the shootings.
