(18 Aug 2021) ‘SCHITT’S CREEK’ ACTOR EMILY HAMPSHIRE SAID SHE WAS WORRIED SHE’D NEVER WORK AGAIN WHEN SHOW ENDED; DISHES ON POSSIBLE REUNION
Despite the worldwide popularity of “Schitt’s Creek,” the show only really garnered success when it hit Netflix.
The show began airing in 2015 on CBC Television in Canada and Pop TV in the U.S. to little fanfare, but picked up a wider interest in 2017 when its third season was picked up by Netflix.
Emily Hampshire, who played motel owner Stevie on the Emmy Award-winning comedy, said that when the show ended, she and co-stars Annie Murphy and Sarah Levy were “very scared we’d never work again.”
“When the show had just ended and nobody cared about it, we were like, ‘Oh my God, the show’s ending. The offers are going to be rolling in.’ And then we’d send like emojis of like tumbleweed, like ‘You hearing anything?’ she smiled, while promoting her latest show “Chapelwaite,” where she shares top billing with Adrien Brody.
“Schitt’s Creek” broke records at the 72nd Emmy Awards, where its final season swept the comedy category. Dan Levy received Outstanding Comedy Series, Writing and Directing for a Comedy Series, with further wins in the acting categories (Lead Actor/Actress and Supporting Actor/Actress) for Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Dan Levy and Annie Murphy respectively.
The question on everyone’s lips is – will there be a reunion?
“There’s not going to be more of the show. We’re not going back to this show. However, I’m pretty sure we will get together to do something of a reunion show thing of sorts. I can’t be quoted that that’s a fact. I’m saying from my personal opinion, we like each other too much to not do that,” she smiled.
Hampshire’s new show “Chapelwaite,” based on Stephen King’s short story “Jerusalem’s Lot,” premieres on Epix in the U.S. on 22 August 2021.
