Marlon Brando’s portrayal of Vito Corleone in “The Godfather” is widely considered to be one of the greatest performances in film history. Brando brought a quiet intensity and gravitas to the character, and his performance is often cited as a masterclass in screen acting. He famously declined to accept the Oscar for his performance, sending Sacheen Littlefeather, an Apache activist, in his place to protest the treatment of Native Americans in Hollywood.
In “The Godfather: Part II,” Robert De Niro took on the role of a young Vito Corleone, and his performance was similarly acclaimed. De Niro brought a quiet intensity and simmering violence to the role. His performance earned him the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, and he is widely regarded as one of the best actors of his generation.
Together, Brando and De Niro’s performances as Vito Corleone provide a fascinating study of a complex character at different stages of his life. Their performances have both become iconic in their own right.
