There are different types of aphasia.

Wernicke’s aphasia (sensory aphasia) :
The patient has fluent speech but is unable to understand speech, words or grammar
Broca’s aphasia (motor aphasia):
The patient understands speech but is unable to produce fluent speech
Conduction aphasia:
Repetition impaired only
There may be several causes of aphasia. Strokes in specific parts of the brain are associated with specific types of aphasia. Aphasia can also be a part of dementia.
