Michael J. Fox, born Michael Andrew Fox, is a Canadian Actor that spends most of his time living in Manhattan, New York. His acting career began in 1977, and not long after, took up several major roles. When he was 12 years old, Fox starred in a Disney sitcom. Many people wonder why Michael J. Fox kept his Parkinson’s diagnosis a secret for 7 years.

The story starts with Leo & Me, a single-season Canadian sitcom. Eight of Leo & Me’s cast and crew now have Parkinson’s. Fox went on to star in the incredible, successful, and cult film Back to the Future.
Fox made one box-office success after another, including Teen Wolf and sequels to Back to the Future. As Fox began filming two more great films, The Hard Way and Doc Hollywood, he noticed that something was wrong.
By the end of filming for Doc Hollywood, Fox was having constant trouble with his shoulder, and his little finger would not stop moving. After several tests, doctors confirmed the Parkinson’s diagnosis and told him that he had 10 years before he would have to quit acting.
Fox was not prepared for the bad news. He resorted to heavy drinking to cope with his depression. In a twisted turn of events, Fox’s young son was standing in front of him while he was waking up on the sofa. He was drunk from the night before – lying next to a spilled beer.
Wanting to make amends, Fox took therapy, quit drinking, and began to pull himself together. The following years were tough, with a series of box-office failures and his medication was giving him obvious side-effects.
His no-quit mentality led him on to create and star in the sitcom Spin City, for which he won several awards. Fox entered into a risky surgery to reduce the appearance of his twitches. Unwilling to hide it any longer, he went public that he had Parkinson’s.
Fox’s career was back on track as he went on to create The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Fox continues to entertain us with his classic movies, sitcoms, and books. But after an announcement from the actor, he will not be taking on any new roles. This is a story about why Michael J. Fox kept his Parkinson’s diagnosis a secret for 7 years.
