He is one of Britain’s national treasures but actor and comedian Bernard Cribbens OBE was also a Paratrooper.
During his two years in the Paras, Bernard spent time in Palestine, where his unit regularly came under fire.
A training report at the time described him as a good performer. A label which served him well as he launched his showbiz career.
The star of Carry On films and Dr Who was a guest of The Parachute Regiment after raising money for the welfare of injured Paras and their families.
The 87-year-old handed over a cheque for £17,000 to the Regiment’s official charity, SUPPORT OUR PARAS. – www.supportourparas.org
