If you are thinking of going…GO! It’s a great event. The crowd is safe, diverse, all ages (from little kids to grandparents), and all there for a good time. My numbering got a bit skewed in the video so here are the 5 (or is it 6) tips;
1. Do some research about the monument. Start here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonehenge
2. Be prepared for the traffic jam on the A303 getting there. You’ll be in it for at least an hour getting in, and it takes at least an hour to leave in the morning.
3. Fill up your car with food, drinks, flasks, booze, cigs, wet wipes, blankets, camping stoves, etc. There isn’t a lot of food options there and there was no one selling (alcoholic) drinks.
4. Use your car as a base. The car park is in the fields off the A303, you can walk from there to the main field where the monument is in 10-15 minutes. My advice is turn up, watch the sun go down, scoot back to the car for some drinks and a bite and a snooze, then get to the Henge with about an hour to go.
5. DRESS UP WARM! It’s freezing at 4 in the morning.
Last tip. There is a pretty basic search as you enter the main site, but they are looking for bottles and cans of beer in peoples hands or in carrier bags. If you had a hip flask or a couple of little plastic miniatures/bit of personal secreted about your person I really doubt they would be looking for it. Security were all decent. They’d let you finish your drinks before going in, and it wasn’t a body search is was a loose pat down.
It’s a really lovely event and I definitely think you should go!
